The First Note

 

Our philosophy is based purely on “making music learning fun”. We try to encompass all genres of music in our lessons and regularly use either Trinity or ABRSM exams as markers of progression (although this is not obligatory).

Progression is tailored to ability and "work ethic" ensuring that students enjoy their music making and see a fulfilment of their individual potential.

The Future Sounds Good

 

Many of our students have gone on to work in the music industry. These including a Studio Manager for a renown TV composer, a top flight audio engineer working for BBC & ITV, TV actor in a major "soap" now touring in musicals, cabaret artists and several teachers some of whom are now Heads of Departments in their own right.

Founder’s Notes 

 

IMS has been providing music services to the local community as well as educational establishments since 1994 (then IMS- Interface Music Support). It was originally set up by musician Colin Waller when the then central government decided to take the central budget for music education and give it directly to schools to buy in their services at a local level (delegation of budgets). This brought about major changes to the way instrumental music was taught in schools leading to private companies and individuals being able to provide such services. Pioneered in Southend on Sea, Essex, they opened their Torbay branch in 1999 initially to provided a consultancy service to schools after the collapse of the then county music service. Since then they have provided both schools and private homes with tuition in Brass instruments, Piano, as well as Theoretical subjects, and can boast a 98% pass rate at graded exams and Astar passes at GCSE.
Music Consultancy has been provided on a number of “new builds” music departments in the wake of the PFI building initiative.
IMS have close contacts in the music retail industry and offer impartial advice on instrument purchase at all levels.
